ASMAA JAMES is an award winning female radio broadcaster with over 14 years of broadcast experience in post-conflict Sierra Leone. Asmaa is a female activist and an active civil society champion in Sierra Leone. Her passion and interests include upholding and promoting independent media platforms, creating safe spaces for diverse voices, positions and interests. She does this by promoting an active citizenry, with the overall objective of strengthening democratic governance. She is currently the Station Manager of Radio Democracy an independent and civil society owned radio station that promotes ideals of open and transparent governance and contributing to universal access to information in Sierra Leone.
She is also the anchor and producer of Sierra Leone’s premier morning radio show – “Good Morning Sierra Leone” where she and her team create opportunities for diverse panelist, guests and citizens to discuss current affairs and national development issues.
Asmaa likes social media interactions, community mobilization activities and facilitating dialogue between groups. Most recently, she successfully mobilized listeners, institutions and funders to contribute towards the construction of an ultra-modern studio building project for Radio Democracy within a 6-months period, positioning the station to expand its broadcast nationwide.
